Operator Story – KODA is bringing institutional custody experience to private finance on Miden

The “Operator Story” series explains why teams become Guardian operators on Miden: the use cases, infrastructure needs, and market opportunities that make Guardian worth operating.

‍

Korea Digital Asset (KODA) provides digital asset custody and services for corporate and institutional investors in South Korea. Backed by KB Kookmin Bank and Hashed, it works with organizations that need security, operational controls and a clear way to account for their assets.

Those organizations also need financial privacy. A company’s balances, trading relationships and payment amounts can reveal commercially sensitive information.

KODA is now a Guardian operator on Miden, bringing institutional custody experience to the infrastructure for private onchain accounts.

The problem with public financial infrastructure

Public blockchains make it possible to verify activity, but they can also expose a business’s financial life to anyone with a block explorer.

For institutions, that creates a practical obstacle. Moving assets onchain should not mean publishing every counterparty, balance and transfer. At the same time, finance teams still need approvals, records and the ability to meet reporting obligations.

Miden keeps private account data offchain while the network verifies valid updates with zero-knowledge proofs. That gives institutions a foundation for using blockchain infrastructure while keeping sensitive account information out of the public ledger.

From custody to private account infrastructure

KODA’s existing business centers on safeguarding digital assets and managing how organizations access them. Private accounts add another operational responsibility: keeping account data backed up, synchronized and available when it is needed.

Guardian provides that layer for Miden accounts. It supports private state backup, synchronization, recovery and multi-signer coordination. The Guardian operator cannot move users’ funds on its own.

KODA operates Guardian on Miden partner mainnet, after weeks operating on Miden testnet where its service has been used for wallet testing. That gives the team hands-on experience with private account operations before developing broader institutional services.

Why this matters for KODA

For KODA, the longer-term opportunity is to bring private onchain accounts into the services institutions already expect from a financial infrastructure provider.

That could include accounts with defined approval processes, controlled access to financial information and policies suited to an organization’s business. In its discussions with Miden, KODA has emphasized the need for institutions to choose who can see transaction information and which counterparties they can transact with.

Those are directions for future services. The current Guardian operation gives KODA a starting point for learning the infrastructure and identifying what its institutional clients would need next.

What’s ahead

KODA’s first step is operating Guardian and gaining practical experience with Miden’s private accounts.

The broader ambition is to support institutional financial workflows where privacy, accountability and reliable access belong in the same product. Further services will depend on customer needs, technical development and applicable regulatory requirements.

For Miden, KODA brings the perspective of a South Korean institutional custodian into the Guardian operator network, helping connect private account infrastructure with the requirements of businesses that may use it.
